INTRO
 
Srikakulam, the northernmost district in the Andhra Pradesh, was a part of Vishakapatnam
District till it was bifurcated in 1950. Srikakulam town, the headquarters of the district,
is located on the left bank of the river Nagavalli, at a distance of about 106-km from
Vishakhapatnam. Srikakulam was formerly known as Chicacole. Handloom weaving is the chief
cottage industry here. Srikakulam is also famous for its muslin, the quality of which is
superb. The most important places of interest in the town include a mosque known as Jumma
Masjid, built by Sher Muhammad Khan, and the temple of Kotisvaraswami.
It is cooler than other districts as it is located at a higher level. Maximum tempreture
in summer is 33 C.Summer is less hot than other districts. Weather is pleasant from December
to February.

Baruva Beach
 
A beautiful beach where the river Mahendra Tanaya is enters into the sea.It is called as
second Goa.Migrating birds is an additional attraction to this place.
Durga Temple, Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple (It is said that 99,99,999 Lingas appeared here
that why it is known as Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple) and Janardhana Swamy Temple are
situated near the beach. the rich greenery will definitely make the tourists stay here for
some days.In the era of British colonial rule in India there was a harbor at Baruva,the
old light house still exists here as the harbor is closed.n July 1917 a ship carrying goods
sank in the sea. To commemorate this sad incident a pillar was constructed.It is a 193 kms
coastline.
 
How to reach:It is situated nearly in a distance of 109 km from Srikakulam city.On
Howrah-Chennai mainline Baruva railway station is located. Well connected by

Salihundam
 
On a hillock amidst scenic surroundings there are a number of Buddhist stupas and a huge
monastic complex. One can see 'Mahastupa', votive stupas, platforms and 'viharas'.The main
stupa on a hilltop measures 46 feet in diameter while the maha vihara salipethaka has an
entrance in the shape of Swastika. This was the place from where the message of Buddhism
spread to Sumatra and other Eastern countries.
Salihundam is at a distance of 18-km from Srikakulam
 
Kalingapatnam Beach
 
The main attraction of this beach are a light house and the Buddhist Stupa. The scenic
beauty of the beach attracts many tourist to this spot every year.It was also an important
sea port in the ancient times and was frequented by many European traders and merchants.
The Kalingapatnam Beach is also referred to as the Open Road Sea as the roads here end in
the bed of the sea shore. Vamsadhara meets the Bay of Bengal in this place. charming and
beautiful is the view created by sand, sea and the sky.
It is located 30 Kms from Srikakulam.
 
Teli Nilapuram
 
There is a bird sanctuary here. Winter migration birds from Russia, Sibarian cranes, block
here. They build nest on the tamarind trees here and migrate to Russia in summer.

Kaviti
 
The coastal belt around Kaviti has extensive plantations of coconut, cashew and jack. The
area is delightfully scenic. Kaviti is also famous for the temples of Goddess Chintamani
Amma and Sri Sita Rama Swamy.
It lies at a distance of 13 km from Ichapuram and Sompet and about130 kms from Srikakulam.
 
Srikurmum
 
The only temple in the country where Lord Vishnu is in the form of Tortoise is temple of
Srikurmam, which is one of his famous incarnations. The Vishnu temple located here is
architecturally unique And the lord is famous as Sri kurmanatha.It is said that the bones of
the deceased if thrown into the Swetapushkarani tank get converted into tortoises or kurmas.
It contains over 200 pillars and many inscriptions in Devenagri script dating from the 11th
to the 19th century A.D.The Dolotsavam is the most important festival celebrated at Srikurmam
during March every year.

Sri Mukhalinga
 
The temple of Srimukhalingam was built by Kamarnava II in 8th century AD of the Eastern
Ganga dynasty this is the site of the ornate Lord Srimukhalingeswara (Shiva) temple.This is
a group of 3 temples and the deities are Mukhalingeswara, Bhimeswara and Someswara. All
these temples show evidence of the Orissa style of architecture (Indo - Aryan style).A
plethora of sculptural work and perforated windows are present in this temple.According to
legend one is relieved from the cycle of rebirth by a dip in the river and a visit to the
shrine.
Situated on the banks of the river Vamsadhara, Srimukhalingam is 48 Kms from Srikakulam.
 
Arasavalli
 
An ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the Sun god Surya.he original name Harshavalli means
abode of joy. SuryaNarayana Swamy (Sun God) as the presiding deity.Archeological experts
say that the stone inscriptions available in the temple throw some light to the effect that
Devendra Varma, the Ruler of the Kalinga Kingdom, must have built this temple and installed
in the image of the Sun God it in the later half of the 7th Century.The temple is built in
such a way as to make the Sun Rays focus on the feet of the God twice in the year in the
months of March and September in the early hours of the day. The rays so focused on the feet
of the idol through the five entrance gates of the temple remain for a few minutes.The
